Album Review: Rodeo - Travi$ Scott

Owl Pharaoh. Days Before. and finally Rodeo. At long last Travi$ Scott dropped his debut album titled rodeo. With a release date of sep 4 the album leaked about a week early and did not disappoint. With a lack of good music releasing lately (in my opinion) I was ecstatic and eager to listen. The first take off the album starts with narration from T.I., upon hearing this most are reminded that Travis although affiliated heavy with G.O.O.D music is signed to T.I. (Hustle Gang), the song Pornography, which is one of my favorites, starts off slowly but shifts into the classic Travi$ Scott sound with lyrics like "its the rodeo time to get started houston nigga going james harden". Other stand out tracks on the album are Nightcrawler with an assist from Swae Lee and Chief Keef who seamlessly mash up their unique flows with Travis's. Although this song has a more hyped sound than that of the dark gothic sounds we have came to expect from Travis it surely does not disappoint. Another track that stands out is Maria I'm Drunk featuring none other than Justin Bieber and thug thugga thugga (Young Thug).  A classic Travi$ Scott song starts of with one intro leading into Young Thug on the hook calling for you to call your friend to get drunk.  followed by Justin with some bars, we learn that the beibs drinks don julio and prefers his drink "on the rocks no chaser".  The album also has its weak points like Flying High. With an almost Pharrell like instrumental. This song does not play to Travi$ Scott's strong points. Travis and Toro Y Moi sound awkward and forced on this track, and finally Piss On Your Grave. Most can say that Kanye and Travis are the pioneers the the punk-hip hop sound and most would imagine that both on one track would be a dream come true. The track is met with no verse from Travis and lazy bars from Mr. West. with Kanye asking "me and la flame is you not entertained" being the only highlight of the song. Overall I give the album a 4/5, Travis travels to uncharted waters with big name features but for the most part keeps his original sound which has got him this far. The album is being followed by the "days after rodeo" a ten night tour which stops in LA on the 15th.
